Houses? Are thye really all that great to look at?

Last week, while I was playing Nintendo in the morning, I was so rudley interrupted by a phone call saysing, "We gotta go help the people move in." Being the great kid that I am, I got ready and went over and helped. After the move in, everyone was looking all over the house, and the new owners were saying they had to see everyone else's house. People were even saying they had to see my house (becuase we just got finished with a big remodel.) Why does this irresistable desire to see anothers' home happen?

When I think about it, it's almost like territorial dominace. Stuff like: "You have a bigger, nicer house then me, I should be nice to you." Looking at someones' house is a great way to prejudge their lifestyle, income, and general setting. For example, if you walk into someones house and it is clean vaccumed and the French house maid walks by in the next hall over, you can pretty much assume they are more wealthy than others.

Another possibility is the women. No offense to you women, but you have to see how other women decorate and what they to do their homes to make it, what you call "homey." You can get ideas from another house, how things look, what type of things to buy, new spots to put baskets, and where to put a key hanger. Stupid things like that, but they really do make home homley. I'm sure that this is a major factor in the "Let's see your house. . . " set of mind.

4.0 GPA? Lets Analyze!!

With the end of the term coming up, looking at my GPA would show that I'm a good student, but I don't have all A's: a 4.0. Even though I don't, I've always wondered why some people try to get a perfect cumulative 4.0 throughout their high school career. Why does someone try to get a cumulative 4.0 from 9th grade to 12th grade??!

I can see that they are going for excellence, but doesn't a 3.9 show excellence just as well? When I look at scholarship graphs, more scholarships are awarded to those who had a 3.9 than a 4.0. The same goes for college entrance requirements. The truth is: a 4.0 isn't what it used to be. Anyone can get a 4.0 if they take the "right classes."Pottery making, underwater basket weaving, and photography are easy A's. I say this from my point of view, where I take harder classes. Classes like Honors Physics, Honors English, and AP classes. Although I may not get an A in the class, I'm learning more than "how to weave a basket underwater."

Next point: A letter grade just doesn't reflect someone's knowledge in the subject matter. This statement is what hurts some "4.0ers." When they get their first A minus, for B plus, they freak out. "My GPA is RUINED," they say, when in truth, it isn't. It is not the end of the world because you got a B. Any college will still take you, even if you don't have a 4.0. My point? Don't freak out when you get something lower than an A. Espeicially in high school. To all those of you who are 4.0ers, I congratulate you! And to the rest of you: I congratulate you!

New Years Resolutions?

With the New Year already here, I just wondered, why do we make New Year Resolutions? The New Year comes with the passing of a day, 24 hours, but how is that any more special? Lets analyze.

When first looked at, the words "New Year" are always capitalized, signifying a proper noun. Any proper noun is important, and that's why we capitalize them. So when we think about this, the New Year really is something important. Although it comes within a day, it is the start of a new year, and could be considered a clean slate, or a blank, new page in a book. The beginning of the New Year is a perfect time to set goals for things you want to do that year. My family, being Christian and LDS, has a tradition at Christmas time. We get together as a family, and we write down something, and it is in a way a goal. This "thing" we write down is called our present to Jesus, and it goes under the Christmas Tree with all the other presents. It is a time to reflect about what you want to do in the upcoming year, and what goal you already are starting to want to set. It is a neat little tradition.

But this leads to the question why do we set goals? The weird thing about setting goals is we set them subconsciously all the time. When you want to get somewhere on time, its setting a goal. Whenever you sit down to practice something, it's setting a goal. At New Years, we set larger, more life changing goals. When we actually physically set these down, they are more likely to happen. Everyone is proud and happy of themselves when they actually reach their goal, and who doesn't want happiness?

分析雜文 (Analytical Essay)

You know, as an active teenager, it’s really hard to support myself financially in the things that I do. But what’s even harder than that is trying to get a job. I do have a writing job, for the newspaper, but it doesn’t really bring in enough to support me, although it does bring some nice “pocket change” in. I blame my "joblessness" on employers. Why?

There are a few things that bug me about employers. The first is they don’t have courtesy, in any way. When I turn in an application, I’m expected to call the employer every day and literally force them to look at my application. They could look at it out of courtesy, but do they? Nope. They could also have the courtesy to call someone back when they’ve filled the spot you are applying for.

Another thing that bugs me is that it’s really hard to find someone to hire a 16 year old. It’s almost as if that “label” prohibits you from most jobs. It's similar to "The Scarlet Letter" excpet not as serious. The truth is, not all 16 year olds are created equal. When I put "Eagle Scout, Lead Saxophone in several bands, winner of the Hope of America Award, etc." on my application, it should show that I'm not an ordinary 16 year old.

So yeah, sooner or later I’ll need to get another job, so I might as well starting forcing people to read my application.

Another Essay

The desktop on my computer has been messy for so long, and more icons just keep piling up. Normally, I wouldn't let this happen; I'm a very organized person. So why do all these icons pile up?

When I look at the titles, such as: New_Bridge.phg;BRUINBANDBREIFING.pdf; and Poem essay, I realize that the majority of these icons are school related. My point is that school has us doing a lot, and even on our computers. When I look further into my life, and see how busy I've been over the past few weeks, it makes sense as to why all these icons are piling up. Piling icons aren't a priority in my life, but school is, so it is interesting to analyze how my "simple, nonprioritized workspace" is influenced by the "high-and-mighty schoolwork."

Well, now that I have a break, I think I'll clean my workspace. Cluttered items, See ya!

Analytical?

This evening, I ate a fresly baked chocolate chip cookie. Boy was it good. It was toasted prefectly and the chocolate seemed to melt in my mouth. Why are chocolate chip cookies sooooo good?

There are a few things about cookies that make them so good. Obviously, the first is that taste. Not much tastes better than a new cookie, fresk out of the oven. The soft chewy cookie sits war in your mouth as the chocolate rubs against your tastebuds. A cookie is a nice snack to eat whenever, wherever.

Another sense that is awakened is the memory. When you eat a chocolate chip cookie, memories of other times come back to you. The tastes and smeel remind you of when your grandma would make cookies, or when you had your first chocolate chip cookie. Hopefully, all these memories are happy for oneself, and when they are it warms the soul, and makes you happy.

This is why everyone loves a chocolate chip cookie.
